A 44-year-old East Ridge woman was killed in a wreck in Sequatchie County on Monday afternoon when the driver of another vehicle came across the centerline.
Friends said Susan Cheryl Rymer Goldblatt, 44, was driving back from Fall Creek Falls after a family outing.
Her two sons were in the 2010 Subaru with her and were taken to a hospital for observation.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol said a 2008 Ford pickup was driving north on Highway 111 at 2:30 p.m. when it crossed the center line and struck the Goldblatt vehicle. The Subaru was spun around by the impact and was then hit by a 1995 Toyota driven by Javier Zavala, 43, of Mexico - the brother-in-law of Mrs. Goldblatt. Family members had been in a convoy headed back to Chattanooga.
Mr. Zavala was not hurt, but three passengers in his vehicle were injured.
The driver of the Ford pickup, Jamie Crabtree, 35, of Monroe, Tn., also was injured.
No charges have yet been filed.
Mrs. Goldblatt served on the board of directors of the Boehm Center, the Chattanooga Down Syndrome Society, the East Ridge Revitalization Board and the East Ridge History Center and Education Committee. One of her favorite activities each year was the Buddy Walk.
A graduate of McMinn County High School, she graduated from UTC in 1988 with a BA in Human Services and was a member of PI Beta Phi.
Mrs. Goldblatt was a 21-year employee of the Southeast Tennessee Development District as a regional planner and director of community development.
She also served as a lactation counselor with the Tennessee Department of Health.
She was an outspoken advocate in the Chattanooga community of inclusion of special needs children and an active member of the East Ridge Elementary PTA and the National Down Syndrome Society.
