Joyce Robinson, an outreach coordinator for Memorial Hospital, talks with Greenwood resident Patricia Pope about the importance of annual mammograms for women ages 40 and older. Memorial’s Health Coach and staff were on site to provide mammograms to the residents, several of whom had the life-saving screening conducted for the first time.
The Empowering Women Women’s Health Fair was held at the Chattanooga Housing Authority’s Greenwood Terrace Apartments.
The free event, which featured mammograms and blood pressure checks, as well as diabetes and cholesterol screenings, was sponsored by Volunteer State Health Plan, UTC, the MaryEllen Locher Breast Center at Memorial and CHA’s Neighborhood Networks Program.
Health care professionals also shared information with residents about cervical cancer, weight management and other prevalent women’s health concerns.
Project Coordinator for CHA's Neighborhood Networks Program Carol Johnson, left, chats with Greenwood resident Tabitha Caldwell as she signs in for the health fair and checks out the giveaways. CHA received a $400,000 Neighborhood Networks grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to create a technology center at Greenwood. Residents are reaping the benefits of free access to computers and a variety of supportive services. China Caldwell, a "Digital Connector" for the computer lab, is seated next to Mrs. Johnson.
