Serra Club Installs New Officers

The Chattanooga Serra Club recently installed new officers for its fiscal year beginning July 1 at the annual installation banquet held at the Chattanooga Choo Choo.

Reverend George E. Schmidt, Jr., Pastor of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, installed the new officers. Father Schmidt also serves as Chaplain for the Chattanooga Serra Club. Club Members and spouses, together with religious from the Chattanooga area including priests, brothers and nuns, were in attendance. Officers installed for the new year include:

The annual installation of new Club Officers is one of the highlights in the Club’s year, which also includes an annual picnic at Camp Columbus to honor and recognize clergy. The picnic includes Club members and spouses and guests, along with all religious in the Chattanooga Deanery, including priests, nuns, brothers and deacons. In addition, our Bishop is always an honored guest at the picnic.

The Club celebrated its 50th Anniversary on Saturday, September 13, 2008. Frank Varallo, still an active member who attends all meetings, is the only surviving charter member of the Club. For more information about the Chattanooga Serra Club, please visit its Website at www.serrachatta.org.


Brainerd Baptist Hosts Parents' Night Out Feb. 17

Parents' Night Out for parents with children birth through 5th grade will be Friday, Feb. 17, from 6-10 p.m. at Brainerd Baptist Church, 300 Brookfield Ave.  The cost is $11 for one child, $5 per additional child and dinner is available for $1 per child.  Space is limited.   The moring schedule will change Sunday, Feb. 19.  Worship services will be ... Signal Mountain Baptist Hosts Souper Bowl XVIII Feb. 16

Man Tells Police He Just Murdered His Wife

An Chattanooga man told police Monday night that he had just murdered his wife.  Police said Robert Lee Hardnett, 50. showed up at the County Jail to turn himself in at 8:40 p.m. He said his wife's body could be found at his place of employment, Power Supply Company, 1907 Daisy St.   Officers responded to that address and found the body of 34-year-old Elizabeth ... Red Bank Commissioners Choose Kenneth Welch To Replace Greg Jones; Jeno Won't Run Again

The four remaining members of the Red Bank Commission held a special called meeting on Tuesday and chose Kenneth Welch as the replacement for Vice Mayor Greg Jones, who moved to Alaska. At the same meeting, Commissioner Ruth Jeno announced she will not seek a new term. She urged the candidates who were not selected - Michael Tindle and Eddie Pierce - to run in the next election. ... Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt.
