County Commission members were told Thursday that a large number of runs by the county ambulance service go uncompensated.
The ambulance service for the period April 1-June 30 collected $2,073,387.
However, another $2,416,062 went uncollected.
Commission Chairman Fred Skillern said, "It was a lot higher than I expected in some categories."
For that period, the write-off for the indigent was $160,961.
For prisoners it was $35,090 and for the homeless it amounted to $63,135.
Those in bankruptcy involved $27,110 of the amount.
Those "deceased" was another $43,655.
