I met Wayne for lunch at Mykonos Greek Grill recently. This is located at 850 Market St. in Miller Plaza. They have been around for quite a number of years, but this was the first time we have eaten there.

This is strictly an order at the counter – then you take your food to one of the tables in the plaza area. The door to the grill was propped open and it was so very hot in there, I don’t see how they work in that temperature. I would guess it’s probably because it is so small, then all the grills and heating units are going, plus the temperature outside is high.

I ordered one of the chicken specials of the day (chicken with vegetables), which was served with a Greek salad. Wayne ordered a gyro with tzatsiki sauce. The gyro was more than Wayne could hold – it is very large and stuffed full, served with chips. He definitely enjoyed the gyro. Said the meat was tender and not the least bit dry.

I also would order the chicken with vegetables again. For $5.95 I got a tremendous amount of food. For me, it was enough for two more meals.

We both thought the food was fresh and delicious. However, if you are looking for a sit-down restaurant, you might not like it. The plaza area is nice, and I noted it has heaters for the winter – so it is a good place to simply get away from your office and grab a quick Greek lunch.

Several gyros are offered including a few barbeque ones ($5.50). Mykonos also has burgers and hot dogs if you prefer. Platters are $7.25 and include Chicken Divine, Humus, and Falafel, along with several salads priced at $5.50. If you’re REALLY hungry, there is the Mykonos Platter for $11. This features almost everything – gyro, chicken, falafel, humus, dulma and Greek salad.

Check out another local restaurant. Hours for Mykonos Greek Grill are Monday through Friday from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. I understand that in a few weeks, they hope to start opening on Saturday – but don’t hold me to that.

Thoughts On The Mathews Sentencing

It is not by coincidence I haven’t submitted an opinion piece in some time to the Chattanoogan.  The topics I cover are generally vitriolic in regards to local political decisions and their makers regarding public safety and I do not wish to associate my name with more noble subjects such as that of the heroic death and cowardly murder of Chattanooga Police Sergeant Tim Chapin, ... Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt. Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)
