Frank Fred Alba, 83, of Dayton, Tn., died Sunday morning, Aug. 29, 2010 at Parkridge Hospital in Chattanooga.
Frank was born in NYC, NY on March 7, 1927 the son of the late Francis Michael Alba and Harriet (Haberle) Alba; and was also preceded in death by his brother, Randolph Alba; and his granddaughter, Jeanette Anne Smith.
Frank served his country with the US Navy in the south pacific during WWII and was on board the USS Missouri when the Japanese surrendered to the United States. Frank retired as an assistant foreman for the NYC sanitation department and lived on Staten Island, NY until moving to Dayton in 2007.
He is survived by his daughter, Regina (Ray) Smith of Dayton; his son, Albert Johnston of Middle Village, NY; brother, Harold Alba of Middleport, Penn.; two granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services with military honors for Frank will be held Tuesday, Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Milton Knox officiating.
The family is being served by the Vanderwall Funeral Home where they will receive friends on Tuesday, Aug. 31 after 5 p.m.
