Lamar Franklin Massingill, 56, of Dalton, Ga., died on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010 at Hamilton Medical Center.

Lamar was born on Feb. 9, 1954 in Dalton, Ga., a son of the late Bill and Phoebe Sue Massingill; and was also preceded in death by his son, Kevin Massingill; and brother, Steve Massingill.

He was employed at Shaw Industries Plant WD as a maintenance man for the past 25 years.

He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Lamar Massingill, Chad and Robin Massingill of Calhoun, Ga., Tony Massingill and Ryan Massingill of Dalton; daughters, Donna Massingill Hughes and Nicole Massingill of Dalton; brothers and sister-in-law, Rick and Debbie Massingill of Tunnel Hill and Dewight Massingill of Dalton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sheila and Dewayne Harrington of Tunnel Hill and Sandy and Mike Boyles of Dalton; nine grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Lamar Franklin Massingill will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 31, at noon at the Melrose Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home, with Reverend Ronald Guffey officiating. He will be laid to rest at the Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Monday, Aug. 30 from 5-9 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

Man Tells Police He Just Murdered His Wife
