Herb Adcox Is Thinking Of His Loyal Employees And Families - And Response (3)

  • Monday, August 9, 2010

I worked for Herb Adcox for 11 years. Most of those years business was booming but a couple of years were tough.

Herb’s attitude and demeanor never changed. He was always kind and cheerful and never laid anybody off. He is the nicest man I’ve ever known.

What happened to Herb Adcox was wrong and foolish. The remaining Chevrolet dealer will benefit but neither GM nor local consumers will. It will be more difficult to get a competitive price on your new Chevy or competitive bid on your trade in, and the remaining dealer will have a monopoly on your service, at least during the warranty period.

Is this good for a Chevrolet buyer? Is this good for General Motors?

One of the requirements GM mandated for many of their remaining dealers was that they upgrade their facilities to the tune of a million dollars or more. That borders on extortion under the circumstances.

Who knows if GM will survive another five years? Based on this decision I doubt they will have a viable dealer network and if the $42,000 Volt is any indication of their future product line you won’t catch me investing a dollar in their stock. I’d just as soon play the lottery.

At 81, Mr. Adcox could go to the house and live quite comfortably but he’s thinking of his loyal employees and their families. Too bad GM didn’t.

It saddens me to see a well established local dealership get the plug pulled because of General Motors mistakes. I do not personally know Mr. Adcox but have met many of his current and former employees over the years and have never heard anything but praise and admiration for him.

I happened to be driving down Lee Highway last Wednesday when they were taking the GM sign down. It is a sad day when the government and the corporation that is owns can take away what a man had built over a lifetime.

Thank you, Mr. Adcox, for your years of service in the Chattanooga area and I wish you and your family continued success.

After reading what Roy Exum and Herb Adcox had to say, I will never buy a GM/Chevrolet product again in my life.

I have worked for Herb Adcox for the last three years.

The first stop Mr. Adcox makes every morning, in the dealership, is the service lounge. He greets his customers with a personal Good Morning and Thank You. He makes another stop on his way out to lunch, another stop as he returns from lunch, and another stop or two during the afternoon.

If he notices someone has been in the lounge too long, he checks to see what the delay is.

His office is located next to the service lounge. The door is always open, and he is always willing to listen.

Unlike GM, Mr. Adcox has not forgotten the people that made him successful.
