The Dreaded Accountability - And Response

Wednesday, September 01, 2010

For all too long, taxpaying citizens have turned a cheek to failures in leadership by wanting to believe it’s a bigger picture than me. Well I guess they have been pushed back into a corner and feel it’s time to ask for accountability.

I am not a resident of the city but am an American who sees a new time. As a retired manager I completely understand that every decision made is a wager that it will benefit the majority and if it doesn’t then I will be responsible. We, John Q Public, have nothing better to judge by than what happens in our little worlds.

Lately our little worlds have be severely stressed. We want major efforts on all levels of our elected leaders to be on the same page with us. We are not focused on our future retirement dreams, we are focused on our jobs today, food for this week and maybe the light bill. Seems like few have been listening. Perception is real. To swallow expensive office furniture, increased taxes, annexation, awnings, retirements and so on is difficult to put in prospective today with our economy where it is.

Accountability is not personal. Accountability is the only check and balance we have in life. I teach and believe that what happens to us today is a direct or indirect result of the decisions we made yesterday. I find the silence deaf ting from most local leadership. It’s ok to have an opinion. Speak out and let us know where and who you are.

We are so on the same page, but I do not have your gift of putting the words together, etc. Thank you for this opinion.

I am so sick, angry and tired of it all, but people are waking up, hopefully, in this town and elsewhere. I only hope the powers that be do not manage to wiggle out of this with the help of the good ole boy system.

After observing the politics in this area for more than a dozen years, I do not have much hope. It is a three-ring circus here: Chattanooga, Red Bank, East Ridge.

I am wondering who is going to replace Curtis Adams for entertainment/aggravation from the county. Time will tell.

Just think what the city of Chattanooga leadership has done to us in just a few short weeks/months. It makes my head hurt not to mention my budget. Of course, there is still the ballot box if people will get out and use that vote.

So, I will not be holding my breath. I will be hoping for the best but expecting the worst.

I would like to thank all of those who have the talent I do not have - the gift of writing some very good opinions of late. I have been waiting for so long for people to wake up, get involved and to do what I can not do. Thanks to all.
