Whirlpool Corporation announced plans for a new 1 million-square-foot manufacturing facility and 400,000-square-foot distribution center in Cleveland.
The manufacturing plant will replace its existing 100-year-old building at 740 King Edward Ave, Southeast.
The company expects to add approximately 130 new jobs to its 1,500 Cleveland employees.
Congressman Zach Wamp said, “Whirlpool Corporation has been a pivotal part of the Cleveland community for many years. Building a new facility in Cleveland will continue to grow East Tennessee’s manufacturing capacity, while focusing on energy efficiency..
“Whirlpool will add 130 jobs as it expands production, creating additional opportunities for our local work force.”
The new plant will be energy efficient and LEED-certified, meaning that it will be a sustainable green building, it was stated.
Construction is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of this year.
