St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church on Signal Mountain will host Fran McKendree in an outdoor concert on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 6:30 p.m. While the concert is free and open to the public, an offering will be collected to help defray expenses.
The audience is welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and picnic baskets to enjoy the concert on St. Timothy’s front yard. In the event of rain, the concert will be held inside the church. Refreshments, including picnic supper items, will also be sold by the youth of the church, beginning at 6:30 p.
m., to support mission trips.
Earlier that day, Mr. McKendree will hold a musicians’ workshop for Zammarin, the ensemble supporting St. Timothy’s 9:00 Rite III liturgy on Sundays. The group will be the opening act of the concert.
This will be Mr. McKendree’s third concert at St. Timothy’s. His career began as he played guitar and sang with the folk band McKendree Spring. In the 1970s, he toured with musicians like Elton John, Billy Joel, Fleetwood Mac, James Taylor, and Ike and Tina Turner. His guitar now rests in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Mr. McKendree’s musical and spiritual life took a turn when he discerned a call to work within the Episcopal Church by revitalizing worship through music. He sees this work as “a chance to challenge people with music. Spirituality in music is really deep in the Episcopal Church.”
While at St. Timothy’s, Mr. McKendree will offer the homily and provide music for the Sunday services on Sept. 12 at 9 and 11 a.m. The public is welcome to attend the morning services.
