Alexian Brothers Senior Ministries Offers Several Events For September

From fitness and educational opportunities to social and creative arts events, Alexian Brothers Senior Ministries offers many opportunities to help seniors stay healthy and active. September events include:

Computer Classes for Seniors
Alexian Brothers Senior Neighbors offers several levels of computer classes for seniors. Seating is limited. Call 755-6100 to reserve your spot. Alexian Brothers Senior Neighbors is located at 250 East 10th Street. Classes are free for Senior Neighbors members or $25/per 4-class session. Senior Neighbors’ membership is only $25/year. For information on computer classes at Senior Neighbors’ Soddy-Daisy location, call 332-1702.

Ballroom Dance Lessons
Intermediate ballroom dance classes are offered each Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Alexian Brothers Senior Neighbors building located at 250 East 10th Street. Class registration and tuition is required. Call 755-6100 for more information.

Beginning Yoga
A beginning Yoga class for seniors will be offered each Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Alexian Brothers Senior Neighbors building located at 250 East 10th Street. The class is taught by a certified Yoga instructor. Attendees should bring their own yoga mat. Chair yoga positions are also demonstrated. Yoga classes are free for Alexian Brothers Senior Neighbors members and $3 for nonmembers. Senior Neighbors’ membership is only $25/year. Call 755-6100 for more information.

Free Alzheimer’s 101 Workshop
Alexian Brothers Valley Residence will offer a free Alzheimer’s workshop on Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 5 p.m. Alexian Brothers Valley Residence is located at 1164 Mountain Creek Road in Chattanooga. Call 875-6110 to RSVP.

Flexibility and Balance Classes
Flexibility and Balance classes are offered on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month (Sept. 9 & 23) at 11 a.m. at the Alexian Brothers Senior Neighbors building located at 250 East 10th Street. This fun and educational class will focus on muscle strengthening exercises for the legs along with coordination exercises that will help participants improve their posture and balance. Flexibility and Balance classes are free for Senior Neighbors members and $3 for nonmembers. Senior Neighbors’ membership is just $25/year.

National Health Care Bill Workshop
Alexian Brothers Senior Neighbors Soddy-Daisy Senior Center will host a workshop on the National Health Care Bill and how it affects seniors with Attorney David Nagle of Legal Aid of East Tennessee on Thursday, Sept. 9 at 10 a.m. The senior center is located at 190 Depot Street in Soddy-Daisy.

Alzheimer’s Support Group
Alexian Brothers Valley Residence will host an Alzheimer’s Support group on Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 3 p.m. Alexian Brothers Valley Residence is located at 1164 Mountain Creek Road in Chattanooga. Call 875-6110 to RSVP.

AARP Safe Drivers Class
Alexian Brothers Senior Neighbors will host an AARP Safe Drivers Class on Thursday, Sept. 16 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Alexian Brothers Senior Neighbors building located at 250 E. 10th Street in downtown Chattanooga. Attendees are encouraged to bring a bag lunch. The cost to attend is $14. AARP members will receive a $2 discount. Call 755-6100 to register.

Lung Disease Lunch and Learn
Alexian Brothers Senior Neighbors will host a Lunch and Learn on Lung Disease with Dr. Michael Czarnecki, MD on Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 12 p.m. The Alexian Brothers Senior Neighbors building is located at 250 East 10th Street. The speaker will focus on topics such as, living with lung disease, COPD and lung cancer. Lunch is free to those who RSVP to 755-6100 by Sept. 15.

Ballroom Dance Party
The Senior Neighbors Ballroom Dance Party is held on the fourth Thursday of each month (Sept. 23) at 7 p.m. at the Alexian Brothers Senior Neighbors building located at 250 East 10th Street. Admission is $5. Participants are asked to bring a plate of finger foods to share.

Blue Ridge Train Excursion
Alexian Brothers Senior Ministries is leading a trip by train through the Blue Ridge Mountains. The $60/person 4-hour round trip is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 27 and includes a box lunch, train fare and charter bus transportation included. Call 332-1702 to RSVP.

Live At Home Lunch and Learn
Learn about the Alexian Brothers Live At Home Program™ during a free lunch and learn on your choice of Tuesday, Sept. 28 or Thursday, Sept. 30 at 12 p.m. in the Alexian Village Gold Room. Alexian Village is located at 437 Alexian Way on Signal Mountain. Call 886-0550 to RSVP.

Men’s Luncheon
The Senior Neighbors Men’s Luncheon is held on the last Tuesday of each month (Sept. 28) at 12 p.m. at the Alexian Brothers Senior Neighbors building located at 250 East 10th Street. The cost of the luncheon is $8. Please call 755-6100 by Sept. 23 to RSVP.

Cruise the Eastern Caribbean
Alexian Brothers Senior Ministries will host a trip to the Eastern Caribbean with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines in spring 2011. The ship leaves port on March 20, 2011 for 8 days and 7 nights. The cruise will be hosted by world-famous comedian Carl Hurley. Call 332-1702 for more information.

Cruise Alaska
Alexian Brothers Senior Ministries will host an Alaskan cruise with Princess Cruise Lines in fall 2011. The ship leaves port Aug. 24, 2011 for 11 days and 10 nights. The trip includes 2 nights in Denali and 1 on Mt. McKinley. Call 332-1702 for more information.


Erlanger Offers Classes And Events For Feb. 20-24

The Erlanger schedule of classes and events for Feb. 20-24 includes a variety of HealthLink Plus fitness opportunities, weight management and family planning classes. NICU Nursing Conference Donates $9,000 To March Of Dimes

Man Tells Police He Just Murdered His Wife

An Chattanooga man told police Monday night that he had just murdered his wife.  Police said Robert Lee Hardnett, 50. showed up at the County Jail to turn himself in at 8:40 p.m. He said his wife's body could be found at his place of employment, Power Supply Company, 1907 Daisy St.   Officers responded to that address and found the body of 34-year-old Elizabeth ... Red Bank Commissioners Choose Kenneth Welch To Replace Greg Jones; Jeno Won't Run Again

The four remaining members of the Red Bank Commission held a special called meeting on Tuesday and chose Kenneth Welch as the replacement for Vice Mayor Greg Jones, who moved to Alaska. Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt.
