Help Keep The Red Bank Fire Department Annual Halloween Party

Wednesday, September 01, 2010

There is nothing better than living in an area that has that small town feeling but is so close to an amazing city like Chattanooga. Red Bank is like this. I’m so excited about the future of Red Bank and the great things happening here.

One thing I did recently hear about that is causing me a lot of concern is the lack of funding for the Red Bank Fire Department to hold their annual Halloween party for the kids. The Fire Department has done this for about 23 years and just doesn’t have the budget for it this year. In addition, they are no longer allowed to solicit funding for the event.

Unless this Halloween event can be funded by private donations it is probably not going to happen. According to Safe Kids USA, children are twice as likely to be killed by a car while walking on Halloween than any other night of the year. In Red Bank, many of the streets are narrow and lack sidewalks. There aren’t always street lights, and the streets can be very curvy and obstructed by bushes and such. It scares me to think of all the little ones walking in the dark on Halloween. Isn’t there something we, as citizens, can do to help support the Red Bank Fire Department in this effort? We are in danger of losing a valuable tradition that has helped keep our children in a safe area on Halloween. If you are interested in donating funding or products to help with this effort, please contact the Red Bank Neighborhood Pride Association at RedBankNPA@gmail.com.
