Combustion Engineering Retiree Was Avid Golfer

John A. “Jay” Anderson, died on Wednesday, September 1, 2010.

He was 93 years young, having been born in Athens, Tn., on August 10, 1917.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John E. and Emma Anderson and several brothers and sisters.

His 38 years of service at Combustion Engineering ended when he retired in 1979.

His many interest and hobbies include being an avid golfer, who shot his age many times. He holds the distinction of having shot six holes-in-one.

He was a member of Red Bank United Methodist Church and was a charter member and treasurer of the Fellowship Class. He was also a member of Rivermont and Creeks Bend Golf Course, loved Tennessee football and basketball as well as anything else Tennessee.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Helen M. Anderson; son, Richard “Andy” (Candice) Anderson; daughter, Joy (Steve) Taylor; three grandchildren, Dr. Stephanie (Chris) Allen, Athens, Ga.; Lindsay and Ben Taylor, Soddy Daisy; three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Natalie and Noah Allen, Athens, Ga.; three sisters, Anna Kay Patton, Athens, Tn.; Catherine Lane, Chattanooga, Imogene Kyker, Athens, Tn.; brother, Roy Anderson, Athens, Tn.; several nieces and nephews. All who knew and loved Jay will miss him greatly, but will be better people because of him.

Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 3, at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 4, at Red Bank United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeff Lambert officiating. The Fellowship Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Red Bank United Methodist Church or Hospice of Chattanooga.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Gertrude Anderson, brother, Linn Anderson, one grandchild and two great grandchildren. Waldo Oran Kinser, 58, of Chatsworth, Ga., died Sunday, February 12, 2012 at his residence. Man Tells Police He Just Murdered His Wife
