Pete Chaney died on Monday, Aug. 30, 2010.

He was born in Danville, Va., on Dec. 30, 1932 to Eugene Withers Chaney and Grace Hayden Chaney. A lifelong newspaper man, he worked for and ran dozens of newspapers in Virginia, the Carolinas and Tennessee.

In the 1980s he co-authored a million-selling book with Lee Stoller, "One Day At A Time," the biography of country singer Christy Lane. More recently he self-published a historical novel set in Chattanooga entitled "The Valley of the Mules."

He served in the U.S. Army in the 50's and was stationed in Germany.

He is survived by his eldest daughter, Catherine Chaney Bowman, of Denver, and his son, Michael Withers Chaney, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and a granddaughter and two grandsons. Another daughter, Robyn Louvein Chaney passed away in 1991. He also leaves four stepchildren, Alan Cooke, Randall Cooke, Sandra Miller and Janet Cooke. His wife of 24 years, Martha Chaney passed away exactly one month ago.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 3, at the funeral home.

Arrangements are by East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 S. Moore Road.

Waldo Oran Kinser, 58, of Chatsworth, Ga., died Sunday, February 12, 2012 at his residence. Man Tells Police He Just Murdered His Wife

Red Bank Commissioners Choose Kenneth Welch To Replace Greg Jones; Jeno Won't Run Again
