History will show that hall of fame coach Bill Walsh brought Super Bowl titles to San Francisco and just as important, that he brought the Minority Internship Program to the National Football League.
Chattanooga defensive line coach Jimmy Lindsey, who was a Mocs team captain in 1999, is grateful to coach Walsh for his vision and ingenuity and believes that the summer internships with NFL teams is vital to a coach’s success.
“I have served an internship with three different clubs and highly recommend that college coaches apply for a minority internship program,” said Lindsey who has worked with coaching staffs at Cleveland Browns (2006) Detroit Lions (2008) and Denver Broncos (2010).
”Bill Walsh is a great ambassador for the NFL Minority Internship Program and offered that opportunity to several coaches including Dennis Green (former coach of Minnesota Vikings and Arizona Cardinals), Lovie Smith (head coach Chicago Bears) Marvin Lewis (head coach Cincinnati Bengals) and Herman Edwards (former Kansas City Chiefs head coach).”
“Taking advantage of the internship opportunity makes you a better college coach since you are able to sit in on all the coaches meetings and learn various drills that you might otherwise not be exposed to,” stated Lindsey who worked with the defensive line coaches each of those three summers.
