The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga topped its record for football season ticket sales for the second year in a row today. The Mocs surpassed last year's mark of 2,257 on Wednesday morning and sit at 2,566 as of noon today.
This is the fourth year UTC has topped the 2000-sold mark, including 2,003 in 1998 and 2,300 in 1997. Mocs fans spun the turnstiles at Finley Stadium at a near-record pace in 2009 and more of the same is anticipated this season.
UTC had the third largest crowd at Finley Stadium against Glenville State (14,002) and the fifth highest attendance against Furman (11,201) last year. The season opener against No. 3 Appalachian State is expected to have a bigger attendance than both of those games.
Season ticket sales will continue until game time on Saturday, Sept. 4, at 3:00 p.m. (E.D.T.). Fans can purchase tickets online on GoMocs.com or call or stop by the UTC Ticket Office at McKenzie Arena from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the week. The UTC Ticket Office phone number is (423) 266-MOCS (6627).
UTC finished 2009 ranked No. 34 in total attendance (52,515) and No. 31 in average attendance (10,503) in the FCS. Chattanooga averaged 10,000+ for a full season for the first time since moving to Finley Stadium in 1997. Today's record breaking sales is further proof that 2010 could see even bigger attendance numbers for Mocs football.
The ticket booth at the First Tennessee Pavilion next to Finley Stadium will open at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday for walk-up sales. All other ticket windows at Finley Stadium will open at noon. Fans are encouraged to get their tickets early and avoid the potential lines on game day. Fans can get a $6 general admission ticket online by using the promotional code 'restore' and avoid the will call line by printing the ticket at home.
