A Savannah, Ga., couple whose cat escaped during a one-night stay in Chattanooga early this summer was reunited with their beloved pet Thursday afternoon at McKamey Animal Services.
Rachel and Kai Plews stopped here to spend a night while in the process of moving from South Dakota to Savannah with their young son and their cat, Joie.
Joie - who apparently was not enjoying the trip - somehow got away during their local stay.
The Plews remained in Chattanooga as long as they could to search for the cat, but eventually had to go on to Savannah.
Earlier this week, a "stray" gray cat was brought in to McKamey.
Workers scanned it to see if it had a microchip, as they do all animals brought to the shelter, and - voila! - found one.
The cat was the Plews' missing pet.
McKamey personnel said the case highlights the need for pet owners to have microchips implanted in their dogs and cats, so they can be identified should they ever get lost.
If it weren't for Joie's microchip, McKamey representatives said they would not have been able to reunite her with the Plews family.
