Randall Bramblett, from Athens, Georgia, and Geoff Achison, from Australia, have collaborated on a few shows when Geoff was in the US, but their tour together in June, 2010 was really inspired. A show together at Eddie’s Attic with Yonrico Scott and Ted Pecchio just smoked and burst with energy. A reviewer called it “Incendiary Hot,” and gave the show ‘5 Exploding Stars.’ Hittin’ the Note Magazine agreed and is releasing this as a full length live CD in Chattanooga. And they’re bringing the same world class band that is on the new CD – Grammy winning drummer Yonrico Scott from the Derek Trucks Band, and Grammy nominee Ted Pecchio from Susan Tedeschi’s band and Mofro. They all bring something special to the group. The free concert for the new CD will be at Riverfront Nights on the 21st Century Waterfront in downtown Chattanooga this Saturday night, September 4.

Randall Bramblett has a rich career dating back to the 70’s, solo and collaborating with some of rock’s most esteemed and celebrated artists. Early on when he was with Capricorn Records, Randall joined the jazz-rock outfit Sea Level with Rolling Stones keyboardist Chuck Leavell. From there, Bramblett embarked on a path as a big-league, musical utility man (especially with sax and keys) and landed on the speed dial of some of the greatest names in rock history, including Steve Winwood, Levon Helm, and Bonnie Raitt. His live performances confirm what the Allman Brothers, Widespread Panic, REM and others have attested to – Bramblett is one of the finest southern rock players, ever. Now with 4 records on New West Records, and a wealth of experience from which to draw from, Randall is getting as much attention for his songs as his musicianship. Rolling Stone magazine said Bramblett is “One of the South’s most lyrical and literate songwriters.”

Geoff Achison has been a musical force on three continents, and now has well over twenty years of touring under his belt. Equal parts New Orleans Funk, driving Blues, jazzy Soul and Outback Mojo, this is southern blues music from the very deepest South! Having taught himself to play in the isolation of rural Australia, he has developed a blues/funk style all his own. Unaware of how the sounds he was hearing on his limited record collection were produced, he invented some of his own techniques - without the aid of pedals or gadgets. As a result, watching him wrench sounds from his simple set-up can be something of a spectacle. He has played with scores of artists like Jorma Kaukonen and Hot Tuna, John Mayall, John Mayer, Levon Helm, Tommy Emmanuel and Hubert Sumlin. Kaukonen is a particularly vocal fan of Achison, and Geoff has been teaching at his prestigious Fur Peace Guitar Ranch for over ten years. Guitar Player Magazine readers voted Achison one of the “Top Ten Hottest New Guitarists” in the world. He also won the coveted Albert King Award 1995 in Memphis and continues to enjoy an endorsement deal with Gibson Guitars USA.

Local guitar virtuoso Wesley Crider opens the show at 7 p.m. Headliner starts at 8 p.m.

Thoughts On The Mathews Sentencing

It is not by coincidence I haven’t submitted an opinion piece in some time to the Chattanoogan.  The topics I cover are generally vitriolic in regards to local political decisions and their makers regarding public safety and I do not wish to associate my name with more noble subjects such as that of the heroic death and cowardly murder of Chattanooga Police Sergeant Tim Chapin, ... Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt. Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)
