The Urban League of Greater Chattanooga is working with the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, and the Tennessee Alliance for Financial Independence (TAFI) in hosting one of the stops on a statewide listening tour. The Listening Tour will be held at The Urban League of Greater Chattanooga, 730 MLK Blvd. from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. on Sept. 28.
“The purpose of the listening tour is to assemble parties involved in helping under-served populations with programs and services that promote financial stability,” said Warren E. Logan, Jr., president/CEO of the Urban League of Greater Chattanooga. “Through the listening tours, the organizers hope to gain a stronger understanding of the financial challenges facing Tennesseans and identify strategies to help communities in beginning and/or strengthening financial stability initiatives.”
“The mission of Federal Reserve Community Affairs program is to promote fair and informed access to financial markets for all consumers, recognizing the particular needs of underserved populations,” said Belita Howard, coordinator, TAFI. “The Tennessee Alliance for Financial Independence is a statewide collaboration of partners representing government, financial institutions and direct service providers for profit and non-profit organizations.”
The mission of TAFI is to foster and encourage asset development and preservation services that increase the financial stability of Tennesseans. TAFI’s primary focus is on the Earned Income Tax Credit and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program outreach, strengthening networks and identifying strategies to help address financial stability challenges facing our communities.
Government agencies, non-profits, economic alliances, community action councils, financial institutions, chamber of commerce, churches, VITA coordinators and direct service providers are encouraged to attend the event.
