147th Anniversary Celebration Of Battle Of Chickamauga

Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park invites the public to attend special programs commemorating the anniversary of the Battle of Chickamauga from Sept. 17-20. The Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center will be open until 6 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and until 5 p.m. on Monday.

A variety of activities, including evening programs, walks, talks, special children programs and tours will take place throughout the extended weekend. Living history demonstrations include cavalry, infantry and artillery, with special election speeches featuring a portion of the 8th Georgia Regiment Band to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the 1860 presidential election. Artillery demonstrations will take place along south McDonald Field, near Tour Stop #1. Infantry and cavalry demonstrations will take place near the Visitor Center, as will the political speeches and band performances.

Union Artillery Demonstrations will be:

Sept. 18 at 10 a.m., 11:15 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:45 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4:15 p.m.

Sept. 19 at 10:45 a.m., 12 p.m., 1:15 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Confederate Infantry Demonstrations will be:

Sept. 18 at 10:45 a.m., 12 p.m., 1:15 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 3:45 p.m.

Sept. 19 at 11:30 a.m., 12:45 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3:15 p.m.

Cavalry Demonstrations will be

Sept. 18 at 11:30 a.m. and 3:15 p.m.

Sept. 19 at 11:45 a.m. and 2:15 p.m.

On Friday and Saturday afternoons Dave Powell, author of The Maps of Chickamauga, will be available to sign and talk about his book. On Saturday from 10 a.m.–3 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m.–1 p.m.

Perry Short, author of Generation of Warriors, will be available to sign and talk about his book, and on Sunday from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. Betsy Hoole McArthur, author of Bound for Glory, will be available to talk about and sign copies of her book. She will also be conducting a special program at 1:30 p.m. inside the Snodgrass Cabin at Tour Stop #8.

All these authors will be set up in the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center bookstore.

Man Tells Police He Just Murdered His Wife

An Chattanooga man told police Monday night that he had just murdered his wife.  Police said Robert Lee Hardnett, 50. showed up at the County Jail to turn himself in at 8:40 p.m. He said his wife's body could be found at his place of employment, Power Supply Company, 1907 Daisy St.   Officers responded to that address and found the body of 34-year-old Elizabeth ... Red Bank Commissioners Choose Kenneth Welch To Replace Greg Jones; Jeno Won't Run Again

The four remaining members of the Red Bank Commission held a special called meeting on Tuesday and chose Kenneth Welch as the replacement for Vice Mayor Greg Jones, who moved to Alaska. Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt.
