The Urban League of Greater Chattanooga announced that enrollment begins for the 2010-2011 class of the National Achievers Society.
The National Achievers Society is an honors club for young people of color in grades eight through twelfth who secure a 3.0 grade point average or better. The National Achievers Society has more than 16,000 members nationwide.
“Members participate in monthly information sessions on a variety of topics such as How to Get a Job, Manners and Etiquette, Acing the College Application, Managing your Money, Citizenship and Civic Engagement,“ said James McKissic, vice president of programs and administration of the Urban League of Greater Chattanooga. “ACT/SAT prep is an additional core component of the program and most of the sessions are held on Saturday mornings. They will also attend college fairs and tour an out of state college campus.”
Members of the National Achievers Society are also recommended for the Bi-Lo/Urban League Scholarship and the National Urban League Scholarship. An induction ceremony for the 2010-2010 members will take place in late September.

The Urban League of Greater Chattanooga, Inc., an affiliate of the National Urban League, is a non-profit agency established in Chattanooga in 1981. The League works toward assisting African Americans, other minorities and the poor in the achievement of social and economic equality.
