Commissioner Mackey: Good Decision, Coach Huesman - And Response (2)

Tuesday, September 07, 2010

Play to win: I am so proud of Coach Huesman and the Mocs football team for what they did on the football team this past Saturday against the 3rd ranked Appalachian team that it’s not funny. The Mocs were down by a score of 42 to 41 with about a minute left in the game. After scoring Coach Huesman could have played it safe and gone for a tie with an extra point attempt. Instead the Coach show that he trusted in his players.

In leadership one of the first lessons that you are taught is to know your teammates and their abilities. Coach Huesman had worked with these young men. He had seen what they could do during the hot, sweaty practices leading into the game. With the chips down he put the ball in the hands of his players, and in doing so I believe that he won the hearts of the players. During the season and afterward I believe there will be other occasions where he will show trust in the players, and I have no doubt that they will give their very best effort to prove to the Coach’s faith in them is well deserved.

Coach Huesman, you will see and hear me in the stadium this season rooting for our Chattanooga Mocs.

Commissioner Warren Mackey

I would like to "second" the opinion of Commissioner Mackey. Although I was not at the stadium, I watched every minute of the game on tv and spent part of that time texting my daughter and friends who were at the game.

While I do not know anyone on the team, I can say that I am genuinely proud of "our boys" and "our coaches." Even though they came up barely short, that game was a testament to their hard work and new found confidence. I can now say that I am unequivocally a Mocs fan and will this week be inquiring about season tickets.

Let's get behind this team and be a part of their bright future.

Johnny Houston
Red Bank City Judge

I would like to echo what my good friend, Dr. Warren Mackey, and Judge Johnny Houston both said about the UTC Mocs. Not only is Chattanooga fortunate to have Coach Huesman at the helm of our football team, our community is very lucky to have Dr. Mackey and Judge Houston in leadership positions on an even higher level.

Hamilton County is extremely well served by these three gentlemen, and I hope we can retain their respective leadership for many years to come.
