3 Sisters Music Festival Is Oct. 1-2

Chattanooga Presents! will showcase an abundance of bluegrass entertainment Friday, Oct. 1, and Saturday, Oct. 2, during the fourth annual 3 Sisters Music Festival, hosted by Fletcher Bright Company.

Held at Ross’s Landing, this free one-of-a-kind event will feature some of the top names in contemporary and traditional bluegrass.

The event begins on Friday at 6 p.m. with music by local Dismembered Tennesseans, followed by Sierra Hull at 7:05 p.m., Chatham County Line at 8:10 p.m. and finally 14-time Grammy Award Winner headline act Ricky Skaggs at 9:15 p.m.

Along with numerous other achievements, Ricky Skaggs released his first–ever solo album on Sept. 9, 2009 and 2010 marks Skagg’s 39th year as a professional performer. Skagg’s won his most-recent Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album in 2008.

On Saturday, beginning at noon, Bluetastic Fangrass will kick off a full day of bluegrass entertainment as the 3 Sisters Festival continues. The Lone Mountain Band will take the stage at 1:20 p.m., followed by the Dismembered Tennesseans at 2:40 p.m., Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper at 4 p.m., Crooked Still at 5:30 p.m., and The Boxcars at 7 p.m.

Cherryholmes, the headline act, will perform the final set of the Three Sisters Music Festival on Saturday night beginning at 8:30 p.m.

Cherryholmes is a 2005 International Bluegrass Music Association Award Winner for Entertainer of the Year, and since that achievement the band has continued on a path of success. Performing music founded on bluegrass, Celtic, and jazz, Cherryholmes received their first Grammy nomination for their 2006 self-titled debut album on Skaggs Family Records. Their second Grammy nomination was for their album “Black and White”, which came in at No. 1 on Billboard’s Bluegrass Album Chart. “Don’t Believe”, the band’s most recent album, brought in the band’s third and fourth Grammy nominations for Best Bluegrass Album.

Three Sisters merchandise and performer merchandise will be available for sale on-site. Beer, food and non-alcoholic drink concessions will also be available. Arbor Day Celebrations Scheduled For March 2-3

Lookout Valley, Tn. recorded the first tornado on what would become a historic 2-day tornado outbreak, at 7:55am on April 27, 2011. An EF 2 tornado with winds up to 135mph, damaged buildings, uprooted hundreds of trees and left one dead. Lookout Valley continues to rebuild from that day. Mother Of Man Charged With Killing Sgt. Chapin Given Prison Sentence Of 30 Years, 6 Months

The mother of the man charged with killing Chattanooga Police Sgt. I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt.
