Tuesday, September 07, 2010

The East Ridge Express 99 Red U-12 boys soccer team won the Atlanta Cup Soccer tournament over Labor Day weekend. The team was undefeated and scored 22 goals in 5 games.

East Ridge Express played Atlanta Fire Elite in the finals on Monday scoring 2 goals in the first 5 minutes of the match while netting the third later in the half, winning 3-1. The Atlanta Fire added their lone goal late in the second half on a penalty kick.

Leading the attack mid-fielders Drew Viscomi, Milan Card and striker Jorge Ortiz kept opponents on their heels the entire weekend. Sweeper Gustavo Mendiola and goalkeeper Ross Wortman played outstanding defense. Wortman allowed only 3 goals over the 3-day tournament.

Now in its 32nd year, the Atlanta Cup is one of the premier tournaments in the country - with more than 650 teams representing Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi.
