Senior Melissa Downs scored the winning goal in the 66th minute from 18 yards out to give Soddy Daisy a 2-1 win against visiting Notre Dame Tuesday night in girls high school soccer.
The Trojans (6-0) scored first as junior Hannah Wyatt found the back of the net in the 12th minute, only to see Notre Dame (1-3), the 2009 A-AA state runner-up, even the score in the 35th minute on a goal by Lexie Pierce.
“It was a very physical game with much of the action in the middle of the field,” said Trojan coach Moises Drumond who gained his 100th coaching win in Friday’s 3-0 triumph against Shelbyville Central.
Downs winning goal came after teammate Summer Lanter crossed a ball into the box and Notre Dame defenders cleared it, but only a short distance. Downs sent her shot inside the post.
