The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Carters Lake and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources are sponsoring a deer hunt for wheelchair hunters on the Coosawattee Wildlife Management Area. The Wheelchair hunt at Carters Lake will be held on November 05 -07, 2010.
The hunt will provide outdoorsmen with disabilities an opportunity to go hunting in areas where barriers and competition are minimized. The hunt is limited to wheelchair hunters only. Every effort is made to make the hunt a success for all participants. For this period only, the Corps opens all the gates to wildlife food plots and some parks to ensure easy access for ATV’s, wheelchairs, and special equipment needed by hunters. Corps of Engineers rangers and DNR personnel will be on hand to provide assistance to hunters.
A pre-hunt check-in meeting will be held at the DNR check-in station, off Old Highway 411, on Powerhouse Road in Murray County on November 04, 2010 at 12:00 noon.
For those hunters who wish to camp during the hunt, campsites with electric and water hookups will be available on a first come basis.
If you or someone you know is interested in participating in the hunt, contact Park Ranger Jeff Pobieglo at the Carters Lake Project Manager’s Office: 706/334-2248
