The Goo Goo Dolls in Concert, Tivoli Theatre, Saturday, Oct. 16, 8 p.m.
With special guests The Spill Canvas. Formed in 1986 in Buffalo, NY, the Goo Goo Dolls were probably started for no better reason than to kill time, make some music, and hopefully get a few free beers from the clubs where they were lucky enough to get a gig. And then, as lead singer/guitarist John Rzeznik says, "Somewhere in there we sort of figured out how to write songs." Most bands that were around in 1986 have come and gone. A lot of trends came and went. But through it all the Goo Goo Dolls have been able to survive and stay relevant. All seats are reserved from $35.00 to $49.50 plus applicable convenience fees. Tickets are on sale now at the Auditorium box office, online at ChattanoogaOnStage.com, and by phone at 757-5050.

CSO Pops: The Phantom’s Leading Ladies, Tivoli Theatre, Saturday, Oct. 30, 8 p.m.
A trio of Broadway's "Christines" from "The Phantom of the Opera" sing as solo artists and in distinctively intricate three-part harmony. These beautiful women provide an evening of surprises and flirtatious fun with exquisite musicianship, humor and class. Think the "Three Tenors" but cooler, funnier and they look better in cocktail dresses. Tickets are on sale now online at chattanoogasymphony.org and at the CSO box office. Call 267-8583.

Thoughts On The Mathews Sentencing

It is not by coincidence I haven’t submitted an opinion piece in some time to the Chattanoogan.  The topics I cover are generally vitriolic in regards to local political decisions and their makers regarding public safety and I do not wish to associate my name with more noble subjects such as that of the heroic death and cowardly murder of Chattanooga Police Sergeant Tim Chapin, ... Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt. Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)
