Grandview Emergency Medical Services Director Jeffrey Roberts has been named by Chattanooga State Community College as the school’s new director of EMS Education.
Mr. Roberts will head a department of three full-time faculty members, 16 adjunct faculty members and a fall student enrollment of over 200, he said.
The EMS education department falls under the overall guidance of the Dean of Allied Health and Nursing, which is one of the largest health science units in the United States, according to the school’s informational brochure.
Mr. Roberts will retain his role as Grandview EMS director, overseeing 33 Emergency Medical Technicians and paramedics who serve Marion County.
“We’re delighted that Chattanooga State has recognized Jeff’s experience, skill, and teaching talents,” said Bruce Baldwin, Grandview hief Executive Officer. “It’s a testament to Jeff’s abilities as Grandview’s EMS leader that the school chose our EMS director as one of its newest faculty leaders.”
Mr. Roberts has provided EMS instruction and education to students from across the state since 1991. Since 2004, he has been a part-time faculty member at Chattanooga State, which has grown to three satellite campuses, including one in Kimball, in addition to the main campus located in Chattanooga.
“People like the idea of what EMTs and paramedics do, which is help others,” Mr. Roberts said. “They also see an EMS career and healthcare as a ‘rock’ in an unsteady economy.”
Mr. Roberts noted that the program is very popular, with 40 students on the waiting list for enrollment, as of early August.
