The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) reports that an early Saturday morning boating accident on the Pickett County portion of Dale Hollow Lake resulted in the lone boating fatality over the Labor Day holiday weekend period.
TWRA officials report that Kathryn Traynor, a 22-year-old recent Purdue University graduate from the Chicago suburb of Long Grove., Ill., was fatally injured when the boat she was riding in ran ashore. Six other people on the boat were injured in the accident and were treated and released at a hospital.
The fatal accident was one of just two boating accidents reported. The second accident resulted in one injury. TWRA boating officers made five boating under the influence (BUI) arrests over the weekend. The holiday period began Friday evening (Sept. 3) and continued through Monday (Sept. 6).
Through Labor Day weekend, the statewide totals for 2010 stand at 160 accidents and 19 fatalities. TWRA boating officers have made 151 BUI arrests.
Over the Labor Day holiday weekend in 2009, there were nine accidents and two fatalities reported in separate accidents.
