There's good news coming out of Howard School for Academics and Technology tonight. The superintendent of the Tennessee Achievement School District indicated that Howard stands a good chance of coming off the high-priority list when this year's data is received.
Meanwhile, some 40 Howard students were being recognized for positive attitudes, commitment, high GPA, essays and excellence in character. One of those students, a former student at Battle Academy, was recognized as a result of his service learning at Battle this semester. He's one of many students who make good choices, strive to be successful in an often-challenging environment, and generally belie the public perception of Howard.
I hope that our community will applaud the success stories just as they bemoan the less-positive news we do hear about from this same school.
Kudos to Howard students and teachers - I hope to hear more and more good news from you.
