Woman Robbed, Pistol Whipped On The Southside

Thursday, August 11, 2011

A young woman was robbed and pistol whipped on the Southside on Wednesday night.

A resident of the 200 block of W. 17th Street said he looked out his window and saw two young black males wearing white shirts attacking the woman. "They could not have been over 15 years old," he said.

He said they hit the 23-year-old woman with a pistol several times, then after they started to leave, one of them went back and hit her again.

The witness said when he got outside the woman was on a nearby front porch crying.

He said he spotted the robbers down the street. He said, "They were walking - not running." He got into his truck, but could not locate them.

The witness said the woman's purse and cellphone were taken. He said the purse was found nearby, but the money that had been inside was gone.

He said the woman lives in the same neighborhood, which has been redeveloped with a number of new homes, condos and townhomes.

He said the incident happened around 8 p.m. "It was in plain daylight," he said.

Police said the woman was hit on the face and hand and had minor injuries.
