Unosano Launches Mobile Diabetes Management App

Saturday, August 06, 2011

Chattanooga-based Unosano has launched a mobile diabetes management app.

Officials noted that nearly 28 million people in the United States have type 1 or type 2 diabetes — 8.3% of the population. Another 79 million people have pre-diabetes and are at risk for developing type 2. The number of new diabetes patients is growing by over 1.9 million each year in the U. S.

In a recent study, the Southeast has been labeled the “diabetes belt” due to the higher than average percent of people with diabetes in this region.

To help address the challenges associated with diabetes care, Unosano launched the My Diabetes Team app that helps people with diabetes better manage their disease.

Officials said, "Tracking all the information associated with proper diabetes management can be overwhelming. My Diabetes Team App is designed to help people with diabetes manage, understand, and track all of their key information associated with controlling their blood sugar."

These include:
- Blood Glucose
- Insulin
- Activity
- Carbs

The app includes a pedometer to help people incorporate walking into their regular diabetes management activities. The My Diabetes Team App also includes a bolus insulin dose calculator for people using rapid acting insulin and carb counting.

The My Diabetes Team is the first diabetes product developed by Unosano. The company will be extending the app to other platforms and launching additional diabetes management products in the coming months.

Unosano is collaborating with Partners and Peers for providing content for the App. Partners and Peers is a Chattanooga non-profit established for the purpose of providing information regarding diabetes treatment to people who live with diabetes, health care providers, diabetes educators, and the general public.

Unosano is a personalized healthcare IT company based in Chattanooga that is dedicated to improving patients’ health and well being by providing innovative tools that encompass the best practices of healthcare providers in addition to evidence-based medicine.
