Firefighters battled a home Thursday afternoon on Signal Mountain.
A neighbor called 911 reporting a house fire at 2609 Wilson Ave., at 12:20 p.m.
Walden’s Ridge Emergency Services arrived and reported heavy fire coming out the front door and the living room window. Since this was a large house fire, Walden’s Ridge Emergency Services requested a Mutual Aid response for additional engines and manpower.
The Signal Mountain Fire Department, Red Bank Fire Department, Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department, Lone Oak Volunteer Fire Department and Chattanooga-Hamilton County Rescue responded.
After firefighters conducted an investigation of the scene, they found the main body of the fire was in the basement.
Chief Jimmy Hillis, Walden’s Ridge Emergency Services, said firefighters were unsuccessful with knocking down the fire due to the quick progression of fire that spread through the home.
The homeowners, Charles and Donna Mayo, were at work when they were notified of the news.
Fire officials reported the house is a loss. Damages are listed at $350,000. The Mayo family had a golden retriever who died in the house. No other injuries were reported, but Hamilton County EMS was on the scene for any potential injuries.
The cause of the fire is undetermined and will be under investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.
The Mayo family was insured and will be staying with friends.
