Afred Webb Wells is facing charges that he went into an apartment on Hickory Valley Road and took a woman's purse.
Tiffany Bowles said Wells entered through an unlocked door and came into her bedroom. She was home with her one-year-old child.
She said the purse was beside her bed. She said when she jumped out of bed, Wells backed toward the door, reached into his pocket, and pulled out what looked like a gun.
While police were on the scene, Ms. Wells called Ms. Davenport and she put the call on speaker phone. He admitted taking the purse and said he would bring it back, but he did not show up.
Wells, 44, of 3800 Providence St., is charged with aggravated assault and aggravated burglary.
