A Dade County detention officer, Frankie Blake Smith, has been charged by the Trenton City Police Department with one count of aggravated assault and one count of simple battery.

The charges stem from an incident when officers responded to a call at a local restaurant parking lot because Smith had allegedly displayed a pocket knife and threatened to kill a male subject who was in a vehicle with his girlfriend.

Smith has been employed at the Dade County Sheriff’s Office since Jan. 9, and had been going through training to become a detention officer.

Sheriff Patrick Cannon said that Smith was terminated on Friday, due to the incident, that this kind of behavior will not be tolerated, and that the charges that Smith is facing are serious and are being pursued by the City of Trenton Police Department.
