Bryan Volleyball Takes 3-0 Conference Win Over Union

Monday, October 01, 2012

The Union volleyball team dropped a 3-0 Appalachian Athletic Conference match to visiting Bryan on Monday, marking the first time the Lady Bulldogs lost a home conference match since 2008.

Bryan took the match by the scores of 25-22, 25-22, 25-18.

Union had won its last 31 home conference matches. Former AAC member King  was the last to beat Union at Robsion Arena in a 3-0 contest on Sept. 9, 2008.

The loss puts the Lady Bulldogs at 8-12 overall and 4-3 in conference play, while the Lady Lions are now 18-7 overall and 7-1 in the AAC.

Paige Moore led Union with 11 kills, while Caity Merritt and Cat Neumann followed with seven kills apiece. Chandler Gray served up 20 assists, and Brooke Porter notched 11 digs.

The opening set was a see-saw battle but Union led 18-15. Bryan fought back and claimed a 21-20 lead. After Union tied it at 21-all on a Christa Hicks kill, Bryan scored four of the final five points to take the set 25-22.

The second set was much like the first as Union once again held an 18-15 lead. However, Bryan used a 6-0 rally to take a 21-18 advantage. Union cut it to 21-20, but once again, Bryan closed the frame by taking four of the final six points to win 25-22.

Bryan controlled much of the third set, leading by as much as 19-15. Union got the deficit down to three, yet Bryan took the final four points to capture the 25-18 decision and 3-0 match victory.

Location Of The Delta Queen Is The Problem

The Delta Queen is a magnificent part of history and in many ways I'm pleased she is in town. Having the boat where she is is the problem. The boat blocks the view of and from the prettiest park in our town. The crew take many of the parking spots around the park leaving families to park across Frazier and schlep their kids, strollers and picnics to the park. You don't get fireworks ... (click for more)

Roy Exum: 50 Facts About Our Bodies

Maybe 20 years ago I became entranced by a book called “Fearfully and Wonderfully Made.” It was co-authored by a surgeon, Paul Brand, and a Christian writer, Phillip Yancey, and gave one specific after another about the human body and how only God could have created such a miraculous machine. Today the book is a classic and I have marveled ever since over how unbelievable human ... (click for more)
