Police Motorcycle Training Course Underway

Monday, October 01, 2012

The Chattanooga Police Department along with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department is in the process of conducting a two-week basic Police Motorcycle Operators Course for area Law Enforcement Officers.

Officials said, "This is a grueling two week course that teaches Officers the skills required to perform basic Patrol duties on the motorcycle and is considered one of the most difficult classes offered in Law Enforcement, as it is physically demanding and mentally exhausting. Police Motorcycles are one of the most effective means of traffic enforcement in Law Enforcement but the skills required to safely conduct enforcement activities on a motorcycle are above and beyond what the average motorcycle rider is capable of, and because of the required skills, Police Motorcycle Officers are considered among the best motorcycle riders around.

"The objectives of the Course are that the students will learn basic motorcycle skills that develop coordination, balance control and the confidence necessary for proficient and safe operation of the Police Motorcycle used in Traffic enforcement and Patrol functions. Students will be provided with the training and riding techniques required to safely operate a motorcycle as an enforcement vehicle. Emphasis will be placed on the development and utilization of sound riding skills and judgment. Students will be instructed in the tactical use of the Police Motorcycle, escort duties, traffic stops, patrol and speed enforcement.

"Students must be prepared for long days working outdoors with the motorcycle and plan for adjusted hours. This is a rain or shine class and exercises continue regardless of the weather (except for lightning)."

Instruction will also include modules on:

? Preventative Maintenance

? Basic Motorcycle Techniques

? Intermediate Maneuvers

? Advanced Motorcycle Maneuvers

? Obstacle Course

? Basic On-Street Riding

? Aggressive Riding Techniques

? Off Road Riding

? Night Riding

? Tactical Use of the Police Motorcycle

? Live Fire using the Motorcycle as Cover

Roy Exum: Hypocrisy And Horses

I am still wincing over the fact a horrendous bill passed in the state legislature that would make whistle-blowers into criminals would have actually gone into law had it not been for Governor Bill Haslam’s eleventh-hour veto. Called the “Ag-Gag bill,” similar efforts in other states have also soured because it is no more than a Catch-22 trick to protect those who abuse animals, ... (click for more)
