A couple has filed suit in Circuit Court asking that a judge order the city of Collegedale to shut down its police firing range on Tallant Road.
Howard and Nancy Reykdal said they live at 6004 Tallant Road and the edge of their property is within 300 feet of the shooting range. They said their house is 700 feet away.
They said projectiles sometimes fall on their property and they are bothered by noise from the range.
The suit says it is believed that the range is not only used by Collegedale Police officers, but by police officers from other agencies.
It says the firearms discharged from the shooting range are aimed directly at their property. It says explosives are also detonated at the range.
The suit says activity at the shooting range was sporadic for many months after it was built, but this year "the shooting activity has increased dramatically and will continue for hours during a single day." They said it "results in loud, obnoxious, vexatious noise that interferes with the peaceful enjoyment of their property."
The complaint says the firing range is a public nuisance in violation of Collegedale ordinances against such nuisances.
Attorney Joe Manuel filed the suit.
