The Chattanooga Music Club will present the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera Wind Quintet in Concert at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21, at Christ Church Episcopal, 663 Douglas St. at McCallie Avenue. The Ensemble is conducted by CSO Music Director Kayoko Dan, and is composed of Janet Hale, flute; Robert Burks, oboe; Robert West, clarinet; Eric Anderson, bassoon; and Gordon James, horn.
The members of the CSO Wind Quintet are all principal players in the CSO Orchestra. They represent primarily the woodwind family, though there is one member of the brass family (horn). The wind quintet is one of the most important of all ensemble combinations involving wind instruments by virtue of the quality and quantity written for it over the last two hundred years.
The instrumentalists of this group have studied at noted schools, colleges and universities, and they have held positions with many well-known symphony orchestras. They all have teaching positions at colleges and universities in this area.
Conductor Kayoko Dan has been music director of the Chattanooga Symphony since 2011. Her musical background includes awards and academic degrees. She is noted for her commitment to the community. Her Sunday Chamber Music presentations have been highly praised and well received.
The concert is free and open to the public. A reception will follow.
