Thursday, October 11, 2012

A family oriented 5k run is set for Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Academy Sports + Outdoors store at Hamilton Place.  The run will begin at 8:30 a.m. from Academy Sports and wind through the 200 acre shopping complex.  Organizers hope to make this an annual event to coincide with the annual arrival of Santa at the mall.

Chris Knox, executive director at the Hamilton YMCA stated  “I’ve wanted to bring a family friendly 5k to the Hamilton Place area for years – and what a better route than the mall, right before the kick-off of the Christmas season.”

Mr. Knox noted that all money raised benefits this year’s YMCA Strong Kids Campaign  which supports a number of programs including;  Y-CAP, a mentoring program for at-risk youth as well as  afterschool programs, academic enrichment programs, Youth Leadership Chattanooga and Y memberships.

Advance registration is $25 per person with a $5 discount for chamber members.  Registration forms are available at the Hamilton YMCA , Academy Sports and online at HamiltonPlace.com.  Race day registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. and the cost will be $30 per person.  First place winners in both the men’s and women’s categories will receive a $250 gift card from Academy Sports.

The YMCA will also provide free on-site childcare during the event along with family friendly activities before and after the run including a live DJ and a bounce house.
