Pink Carpet Country Celebration Celebrates MaryEllen Locher Foundation 10th Anniversary

Celebration Includes Concert By Randy Owen

Friday, October 12, 2012

Randy Owen, lead singer from the country group Alabama, will be the featured guest at the 10th anniversary celebration of the MaryEllen Locher Foundation at the Tivoli Theater on Thursday, Nov. 15.

Dedicated to helping families impacted by breast cancer through college scholarships and breast cancer awareness initiatives, the MaryEllen Locher Foundation will honor these families by celebrating them like the stars they are in the community. The atmosphere of the event will be a mixture of “PINK” Hollywood glam and Country Celebration, combined with a concert featuring Randy Owen.

The event will include live media remotes and a VIP Pink Carpet arrival.

The glam style pink carpet arrival will celebrate breast cancer survivors, their families, VIPs, and sponsors.  Live media coverage of the pink carpet arrival will be complete with paparazzi and lights as survivors receive a pink rose and sign their name on a star walk.

One of the highlights of the evening will be the presentation of a scholarship during the concert to surprise a local student and the student’s family. The MaryEllen Locher Foundation established a national scholarship fund in 2002 by beloved television anchor MaryEllen Locher, after her own diagnosis of breast cancer and resulting concern about her own child’s future. The Foundation provides scholarships for secondary education to children who have lost a parent to breast cancer and children of breast cancer survivors.

Alabama had 21 Gold Records, 43 Number 1 hits, and over 150 industry awards including eight “entertainer of the year” awards, Grammys, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Randy Owen was the front man and lead singer since the band’s inception.

Randy Owen has raised millions of dollars for schools, hospitals, youth ranches, and tornado relief. He has been a big supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, where he was awarded the Founder’s Award. He also serves as an advisory board member of the MaryEllen Locher Foundation.

For sponsorship opportunities, call 490-4555 or 488-9784.

The Pink Carpet arrivals will be from 6:45-7:15 p.m.  The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $50 and are available at the Tivoli Box Office 757-5050 or at

Roy Exum: A Dose Of Foxhole Humor

During my quest this week for jokes and funny stories that would brighten my day, a surprising number of friends sent me hilarious samples of “fox-hole humor” and it made perfect sense. It was the most famous Marine – Chesty Puller – who once announced to his troops in Korea, “All right, they're on our left, they're on our right, they're in front of us, they're behind ...
