The Chattanooga Chapter of Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge National Awards Ceremony was held Sunday at Collegedale City Hall.
National Distinguished Citizen & Life Achievement Awards were presented to former Chattanooga Mayor Gene Roberts and to Dr Robert Bowers, director of Volunteers in Medicine, "in honor of their good citizenship, patriotism and their service to all the citizens of our community." Former Mayor Roberts was unable to attend to accept the award from former County Executive Dalton Roberts.
Six Students from local schools and one from Maryville received national awards for writing outstanding 500-1000 word essays.
Gracie Ann Leamon, seventh grade student at Chattanooga Christian School, sang several numbers.
