Bryan's Levengood Education Lab Rededicated

Bryan’s Education Department rededicated the Levengood Teaching Lab, recognizing a 10-year-old gift and the changing nature of technology.

Members of the Levengood family celebrate the rededication of the Levengood Teaching Lab in the Education Department office suite. Members of the Levengood family met Bryan officials 10 years after the lab was dedicated, to mark its relocation to the education department’s office suite. The lab, made possible by gifts of the Levengoods, honors the memory of the Rev. and Mrs. Albert J. Levengood Sr. The Rev. Mr. Levengood served on the Bryan faculty from 1938 to 1944, and many of the Levengood descendants have studied at the college over the years.

Dr. Steve DeGeorge, professor of education and head of the department, said many of the lab’s original purposes were absorbed into the Kinsey Curriculum Lab, and technology and training needs were changing. “We had come to need a space where students could do a number of things besides use computers and presentation board,” he said.

“We needed a lab in which students can develop their electronic teaching portfolios, view and evaluate videos of themselves teaching, polish portions of these videos for their portfolios and use Skype to expand their experiences and communicate with colleagues worldwide. The new Levengood Teaching Lab does all that and more. It has more computing and learning power than previous labs and takes up less space.”
