Julie Davis, a CPA with Johnson, Hickey & Murchison, PC, plans to walk 60 miles this weekend in remembrance of a friend’s mother, after raising $3,700 in support of breast cancer research.

Ms. Davis is part of a three-member team, Rockin’ the Racks, that will set out to complete the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk, Oct. 19-21 in Atlanta. Together Ms. Davis and her teammates hope to raise awareness and funding for a disease that kills over 39,000 American women annually.

“I am walking in honor of my friend’s mother, Sandra Emerling, who died from breast cancer 15 years ago,”  Ms. Davis said. “My friend and I met in the 7th grade, and have been close ever since. I’m happy to be able to support her in this way.”

Each walker in the Komen event must raise a minimum of $2,300. In addition to donations from her family and friends, Ms. Davis’s team was the designated recipient of JHM’s seasonal “Jeans Day” fundraiser, in which employees contribute $5 each time they wear jeans to the office on Fridays. Jeans Day yielded a $1,025 contribution from JHM toward the walk.

“Supporting our employees in the causes they care about is something we care about at JHM,” said Dean Krech, the firm’s audit partner. “We wish Julie and her team the best of success in the walk.”

“The people at JHM have been so supportive and generous in giving to my walk. Each walk raises millions of dollars for research; I’m glad that I can be a part it,” Ms. Davis said.

Roy Exum: Sharing The Laughter

This time last week I was certain that laughter is the best medicine but I have since found I was wrong. Early in the week, as I revealed I was struggling with some health issues, I asked unashamedly for help. Since then the prayers of the people have already resulted in miracles and blessings but what has staggered me are not just hundreds of jokes that have flooded my email but ... (click for more)
