Cookeville Will Play Host To Toyota All-Star Classic

The Tennessee Athletic Coaches Association (TACA), along with the Tennessee Toyota Dealers are excited to announce that the 6th Annual Toyota East vs. West Tennessee All-Star Classic will be held in Cookeville at Tennessee Tech’s Tucker Stadium. The annual all-star event will kickoff at 1:00 PM CST on Saturday, December 8, 2012.

The game features 88 of Tennessee’s top high school football players divided into East and West teams. The Toyota East vs. West Tennessee All-Star Classic will serve as an extension of Cookeville’s Championship Week, and has been made possible by the Cookeville-Putnam County Chamber of Commerce and the Cookeville-Putnam County Sports Council.

Greeneville High School’s Caine Ballard has been named head coach of the East squad, while Kevin Creasy of Trousdale County will lead the West team. Assistant coaches will be named next week. Player nominations are being received through October 26th. The team rosters will be announced in early November. The West team won last year’s game by the final score of 20-14.

Woman Killed In Early-Morning Wreck On Thrasher Pike

A woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash in the 1200 block of Thrasher Pike early Saturday morning. Soddy Daisy Police Chief Phillip Hamrick said a female passenger was ejected from the vehicle. She was transported to Erlanger Hospital by LifeForce helicopter about 3:15 a.m. The driver was transported by Hamilton County EMS. It is believed he had non-life threatening injuries. ... City May Move Forward On $47 Million Wilcox Tunnel Project

City officials may move forward on a $47 million project to upgrade the narrow Wilcox Tunnel through Missionary Ridge. The City Council on Tuesday is to consider a resolution to apply for a $25 million federal TIGER grant. The city would still have to come up with $21,825,000 through "local funds or grants."
