For the second consecutive season, the last thing standing between the East Hamilton volleyball team and the Class AA state tournament was a home match against Notre Dame.
And this year, the Lady Hurricanes took care of business even more quickly than they did last season.
East Hamilton will return to state next week after a 3-0 sectional sweep of the Lady Irish at home Thursday night.
"We're totally fired up and excited about going back to the state tournament," Lady Hurricanes coach Kristy Lenoir said. "I think the fact that my girls had been in that position before and knew exactly what we needed to do really helped us."
Lenior's team opened the match with a 25-14 victory, and cruised to a 25-11 win in the second set. Cheered on by a large and enthusiastic crowd of supporters, the Lady Hurricanes then finished off Notre Dame with a 25-17 victory, and celebrated their return trip to state.
"We played well," Lenoir said. "We served well, and we were very consistent. It's always nice to be at home. We had a lot of support. Our crowd was loud, and we went out and did what we had to do."
The victory improves East Hamilton's record to 33-18. The Lady Hurricanes will begin state-tournament play next Wednesday in Murfreesboro.
