Lady Mocs Drop To Consolation Matches In USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regionals

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team competed in the main draw of single and doubles at the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regionals in West Lafayette, Ind., this weekend. The Lady Mocs lost out of the main brackets and will compete in consolation matches for the rest of the weekend.


UTC faced some strong competition all day, but came away with one win in doubles play. Senior Jenna Nurik (Roswell, Ga.) and sophomore Kaylene Chadwell (Franklin, Tenn.) posted an 8-3 win over Louisville's Mandy Brown and Stefanie Villajuan in the first round. The lost to No. 5 seed Caitlin McGraw and Jessica Stiles of Kentucky (8-4).

Sophomore Claire Mulyadi (Semarang, Indonesia) and freshman Kayla Jones (Memphis, Tenn.) dropped their doubles match to top-seeded Brynn Boren and Kata Szekely (8-2) of Tennessee.

Nurik, Jones, Chadwell and junior Alexa Flynn (Memphis, Tenn.) all lost in the first round of singles play. They will compete in the consolation bracket on Saturday.

Dog Fighting Operation Uncovered On Talledega Avenue

TBI was executing a narcotics search warrant at 6302Talladega Ave. in Chattanooga on Friday and uncovered a dog fighting operation. Officials said it consisted of numerous pit bills, a fight ring, a treadmill and blood-stained carpets and paneling. Mcckamey Animal Services personnel were processing the fight scene. City May Move Forward On $47 Million Wilcox Tunnel Project

City officials may move forward on a $47 million project to upgrade the narrow Wilcox Tunnel through Missionary Ridge. The City Council on Tuesday is to consider a resolution to apply for a $25 million federal TIGER grant. The city would still have to come up with $21,825,000 through "local funds or grants."
