Emory Wins In Overtime Despite Morrison's Hat Trick For Covenant

ATLANTA, Ga. -- Covenant senior forward Tyler Morrison scored three goals, but Emory University prevailed with a "golden goal" in the first overtime to claim a 4-3 win over visiting Covenant on Friday night.
The first half saw four goals scored as the match was tied 2-2 going into halftime. Morrison gave Covenant its first lead of the night in the 13th minute when he knocked in his first score, assisted by Noah Wiersema.
Emory quickly responded as David Garofalo scored in the 15th minute to tie the match. Morrison added his second goal of the night of the night in the 31st minute when the senior knocked in a Roy Anderson throw-in to give the Scots a 2-1 lead. Emory produced the equalizer just seven minutes later as Andrew Jones scored from 15 yards out after a punt by keeper Abe Hannigan and a quick pass from Sebastia Hardington.
Defense began to play a bigger role in the second half. Neither team scored until the 74th minute when Emory's Michael Rheaume put the Eagles on top 3-2 with a shot from roughly 25 yards out that bounced off the crossbar and into the net.
But Morrison and the Scots would not go down easily. The senior knotted the score again at 3-3 with his third goal of the match in the 88th minute. Morrison received a long pass, cut into the box, and then got his shot past Hannigan for the equalizer.
In overtime, Emory took the only shot and it paid off as Dylan Price found the back of the net for the game-winner off an assist from Jeffrey Cochran.
Morrison's career night gives him six goals on the season, which now leads the team. Covenant keeper Shuler Polk made six saves. Chris Pifer had two shots on goal for the Scots.
Emory (8-5-2) keeper Hannigan tallied three saves. The host Eagles outshot the Scots 19-16 with a 10-6 edge in shots on goal.
Covenant returns to action on October 24 when they travel to Sewanee, Tenn., to take on the Sewanee Tigers. Kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m.
