The YMCA of Metropolitan Chattanooga’s board of directors announced the appointment of Janet Dunn as the organization’s new president and chief executive officer effective Monday.

Ms. Dunn brings with her over 25 years of experience in the YMCA movement, most recently serving as chief operating officer for the Family YMCA of Greater Augusta. In that role she was responsible for the daily operations of 13 branches, three centers, an 86-acre resident camp and the provision of before and after school childcare in 32 schools.  She also supervised more than 60 full-time and 800 part-time staff.  Some of her accomplishments in that role included increasing the annual support campaign, as well as increasing the organization’s membership revenue.

“I am honored to have been given the opportunity to be part of this great community and to continue to promote the YMCA of Metropolitan Chattanooga as a leader in youth development, healthy living and social responsibly,” Ms. Dunn said. “We have a tremendous group of board members, staff and volunteers who I look forward to working with in bringing renewed interest in our programs and services.”

In addition to serving as COO for the Family Y of Greater Augusta, Ms. Dunn was the Membership/Program Consultant and Management Consultant for YMCA of the USA, where she provided specialty-consulting services to over 11 states within the southeast.

“We chose Janet because of her 25 years of experience and accomplishments within individual YMCA branches, as well as with the YMCA of the USA as an organization,” Tony Killen, chief volunteer officer for the YMCA of Metropolitan Chattanooga, said. We are confident that Janet will be a positive leader for our staff, our members and the organization, while continuing to promote the YMCA’s mission within the community.”

Other previous YMCA positions held by Ms. Dunn include program director, Community Services director and executive director for the YMCA of Greater Toledo.
